I recently attended the 16th Canadian Foot and Ankle Symposium, an international meeting bringing together leading experts in the field. The symposium was strongly case-based, highlighting that despite the growing number of guidelines, clinical decision-making must remain individualized. Factors such as patient age, activity level, and expectations regarding daily life and sports play a crucial role in determining the most appropriate treatment.
This experience allowed valuable exchanges on current techniques, including total ankle replacement, minimally invasive surgery, and sports-related injuries, further strengthening my clinical practice. It also reinforced the importance of ongoing interaction and debate among colleagues to deepen our insights and support thoughtful, patient-centered decision-making.
