Meet Dr. Laurent Goubau
Laurent Goubau, M.D. is an orthopedic surgeon and foremost specialised in sports injuries and degenerative diseases of the Foot and Ankle.
He is actually working in AZ Maria Middelares in Gent and at the Brussels Orthopedic and Sports Institute (BOSI) and he is engaged in the Belgian Foot and Ankle Society (BFAS) as president for the years 2023-2024.
Dr. Laurent Goubau worked at the Foot and Ankle Institute in Brussels with his masters and respected tutors dr Thibaut Leemrijse and dr Bernhard Devos Bevernage from 2017 to 2021 where he was integrally involved in the teaching of residents, fellows, and Belgian podiatry students. Prior to his partnership at the Foot and Ankle Institute, Dr. Laurent Goubau was a Foot and Ankle surgeon fellow at several internationally renowned foot and ankle orthopedic surgeons.
In Switzerland he worked together with prof dr Beat Hintermann and prof dr Markus Knupp, focussing on hindfoot pathology and total ankle joint replacements. In the United Kingdom, he was a fellow with Mr. Anthony Sakellariou and Matthew Solan whit whom he collaborated and from whom he learned how to address heel pain and complex ankle fractures.
Dr. Laurent Goubau has a special interest in minimally invasive surgery and gained knowledge in this matter with the help of Dr. Mariano De Prado and Dr. Eduard Rabat, both pioneers in the field.
He was a fellow with Dr. Selene Parekh, Dr. Mark Easley, Dr. James Nunley II, and Dr. James de Orio at Duke University. Thanks to this outstanding team of foot and ankle specialists from North Carolina he's got introduced to a myriad of ankle prostheses in order to treat ankle osteoarthritis.
Prof.Dr. Timothy Daniels, associate professor at the University of Toronto was a great mentor in teaching the pearls and pitfalls when performing a total ankle prosthesis.
A graduate of the Louvain Catholic University School of Medicine, Dr. Laurent Goubau completed his internship and residency at the Hospital of the University of Gent and regional Hospitals in Antwerp.
Dr. Laurent Goubau is an avid sailor and loves tennis. He is married and he and his wife are the proud parents of two lovely kids.
